Learn Like A 5 Year Old To Be A Successful Real Estate Agent

There are many things that we can learn from a child, their persistence, curiosity and enthusiasm. Once a child has their mind set on something they are curious in, they will focus, think and talk about that particular thing incessantly.

Take for example when my daughter is five year old, she saw people rollerblading in TV and she instantly fell in love with it. She will persuade us daily to buy her a pair of roller blades. When she finally got it after a few months, she will play with it at every possible opportunity. She will check out YouTube videos to learn. Whenever she falls, she will get up with courage and determination. Only after a few days later, she can skate!

 When you set foot into the real estate industry, you will need to have the mindset like a child too as you will be on a sharp learning curve. There are many things about the industry that you have to learn every single day.

From the moment you decide to be a Real Estate Agent, you must take the Real Estate Salesperson (RES) course and RES exams to be a real estate agent in Singapore. The RES examination syllabus includes buying-selling-leasing of HDB flats and private residential, industrial and commercial properties, property laws, real estate rules and regulations.

When you start your Real Estate Salesperson career, you will be required to take Continuing Professional Development (CPD) annually which takes about 10 hours to fulfil the minimum requirements.

As a Real Estate Agent, you will also need to learn the practical knowledge on all the various sectors in the industry. You will need to know the all the different types of real estate, the different laws that govern them, their price trends, marketing, presentation and closing skills. You will also need to learn how to prospect effectively and brand yourself in various online and offline platforms. You will need to know the latest and most effective way to market your sellers house and also find the best deal for your buyers.  You will also need to learn Creative Financial Calculations to help your clients build their property portfolios and the best course to learn is Advisory Sales Masterclass (ASM).

As the saying goes, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” Even after 20 years in the industry, there’s always something new for me to learn about daily.
